Nikita: The Fall of Amanda

Hello everybody! Sorry I haven’t reviewed anything new over the last couple of weeks, I wrote all of the articles before my vacation. We will have a few new films to review this week, but today we are going to start with my favorite tv show that just finished, the CW’s Nikita.

Nikita is a taut, sexy spy thriller starring Maggie Q, Lyndsey Fonseca, and Shane West as Nikita, Alex, and Michael respectively. Nikita is a remake of the French film La Femme Nikita, as well as an American remake of the French show. Initially, we follow Nikita as she tries to destroy Division, a secret United States black ops group sanctioned by the government. After Division is destroyed in Season 3, we spend our six episode season 4 hunting down Amanda, a psy-ops specialist and series antagonist (Melinda Clarke). Lets just say that season 4 is so great it should have been longer.

I really wanted to spend this article reviewing just the final episode, but decided to do the series as a whole instead. Nikita was by far one of the best action shows on television today. The show was engaging, entertaining, emotional, and even hilarious in show parts. The whole main cast does an amazing job, but I have to give a specific shout out to Melinda Clarke. I have never seen someone make evil looks so god damn beautiful and hot. I really hope they make a sequel movie or something. Amanda is just the perfect tv villain.

There aren’t very many things that I could say that would negative reflect Nikita. I just love that damn show waaay to much. Let’s start off though with the beginning of the series though. I felt Seasons 1 and 2 kind of dragged on (I mean, 22 episodes a season is pretty long if you think about it). They could have easily cut the first three seasons down to 15 episodes a season. Also, I felt that they should have kept Percy (Xander Berkeley) alive longer. Yes, I get that it was a major turning point for all of the main character, put we just couldn’t turn down or forget his chess metaphors.

PROS:

  • Main cast performances.
  • Metaphors and symbolism.
  • Production value.
  • Suspense and storytelling.

CONS:

  • Season lengths.
  • “The shop”.
  • Trim the fat.

SCORE: 9.5 / 10
