I actually stumbled upon Voices of a Distant Star by complete accident. This short OVA, which only lasts about twenty minutes, tells a complete story through and through. I have to give props to Makoto Shinkai, as there are plenty of layers of depth to the story and is told in such a great way in such a short run time.  The animation style is crisp and complete, which is to be expected.

Voices of a Distant Star accomplishes more than most series can’t do in 26 episodes, but it wasn’t perfect. Why if Mikako and Noboru are in the future, why do they have to rely on outdated technology? For the sake of plot obviously.

PROS:

  • Characters.
  • Relationships.
  • Animation style.
  • Plot.

CONS:

  • Run time.
  • Outdated technology.

SCORE: 7.5/10
