ge3-4-noscaleSet in a post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 2071, the world has been mostly destroyed by mysterious monsters known as the Aragami. An organization known as Fenrir was made to exterminate Aragami using ‘God Arcs’, weapons made from Aragami cells. Those who specialize in exterminating Aragami are known as God Eaters. Their God Arcs originally could only keep a single form, however a new type has been discovered that can switch between gun and blade form. Since then, they have been classified new-types and the previous as old-types.

So why don’t we get a move on with this review shall we? Well, I was recommended God Eater by a close friend of mine, and I am not exactly sure whether to thank him or just drop kick him for a bad recommendation. I’m right in the middle of the road on this one y’all. First off, I really do like the art style that God Eater uses. It seems almost CGI, but still has some traditional elements. As for the characters, I only actually cared about Lindow and Kota’s struggle with his family. I am infatuated with the technology and use of the Oracle cell though.

Now for the good stuff. Starting from the beginning, the God Eater anime feels very much like a copy/paste action anime. Even including the opening, I feel like I have seen and heard all of it before. It almost feels like they simply combined story elements from Attack on Titan and Akame ga Kill and ended up with God Eater. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like the anime did the game series (OC) any justice. But if you need a new cookie cutter action series to watch, I’ll leave this here.

  • A few likable characters.
  • Oracle cell(?) technology.
  • Art style.

  • Copy and paste anime.
  • Bland opening.
  • Uninteresting story.

SCORE: 6.0 / 10
