Archer Vice: ISIS the Cartel

Hello everybody! Today we have a review for the most recent season of FX’s Archer.

STARRING:  H. Jon Benjamin, Judy Greer, Amber Nash, Chris Parnell, Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, George Coe, Adam Reed, Lucky Yates

GENRE: Action, Adventure, Black comedy, Crime, Espionage, Sitcom

YEAR: Jan. 14, 2010 – Current

COUNTRY: United States

When ISIS is disbanded by the U.S. government, its former employees take note of a hidden stockpile of cocaine that the agency accumulated from previous operations. They establish a new headquarters in Cheryl Tunt’s manor and form a drug cartel, before heading south to sell the cocaine to fund their retirements. Cheryl, who is already extremely wealthy, instead decides to launch a new career as a country singer. Along the way, the group attracts the attention of rival gangs and face problems that arise from the characters adapting to their new roles. This season is considered a “re-boot” of the series, taking the gang to new places away from the spy game.

Archer Vice takes the series in a whole new (while still familiar) direction that is just an absolute joy to watch. While the ISIS gang tries their hardest to sell their “tonne” of cocaine, but they really aren’t the best drug dealers. Are they really the best at anything? I mean, first they are a spy agency, then a drug cartel, then arms dealers. They just conveniently keep fucking everything up and it is hilarious to watch. I want to point out that this season we were able to see more of some of our favorite secondary characters (I.e. Pam, Kreiger, Cherlene). As part of the Archer Vice series, the producers even released a country album for Cherlene. Its actually pretty good to, listen to it here Cherlene: Songs from Archer.

While I really enjoyed this “re-boot” of Archer, I can see where many people are thinking it is a step forward in the wrong direction. This feeling is only supported by the fact that Archer creator Adam Reed has stated that the ISIS gang will be going back into the spy game for the next two seasons. A single season remake? Seriously? Also Lana finally gave birth. She pissed me off and was a total bitch as a pregnant woman. Archer had gone as far as they could with Lana being pregnant, thank god that is over. The mother in her will maybe give some decent content for the show to attract more viewers.

  • New direction for the show.
  • Outlaw Country!
  • Secondary characters have more screen time.

  • Lana is a bitch pregnant.
  • Could they have some success please?
  • Re-hashing old story lines.
  • One season reboot?

SCORE: 8.0 / 10

First Look Archer Season 5: No More ISIS

********************************************SPOILER ALERT*********************************************

The ISIS office is blown up by the FBI, who then arrests all the ISIS agents. Mallory gets them out of it by agreeing to shut the office down permanently. The characters go back to the office and muse about different professions they could try, with Cheryl insisting she’s going to become America’s top country sensation and Archer reviving his dream of playing professional lacrosse. Pam is happy that she still has underground fighting to fall back on. Just as the episode reaches a point where everyone would hug goodbye, Mallory reminds them that they have one last thing to deal with: the “not-figurative-at all” ton of cocaine in the secret vault.

So they decide to become a drug cartel. Which, apparently, is what’s happening in Season 5.

I’m so excited for this season I can barely breathe.

Season Four Archer Finale: Sealab 2021!

Hello everybody! I know it has been a couple of reviews now that I have not reviewed any films, but believe me, I have plenty of them to review.  I will be back to them soon.

TITLE: SEA TUNT (S04E12, S04E13)

DIRECTOR: Adam Reed, Rick Cleaveland

YEAR: 2013

COUNTRY: United States

Hmm, what can I say about Archer? This show is absolutely fantastic.  All throughout season 4 there have been some memorable moments, but the Sea Tunt has to be the best of the season.  Finally we get to meet some new characters with more devious plans, and plenty of jokes about insurance fraud. Also plenty of Mallory drinking.

Pam is “Gay for The end of the world as we know it (TYOTWAWKI)”

What Season 4 as done best as there are constant references/inferences to other media as well as itself.  Just like the Season 4 premiere’s collaboration between Archer and Bob’s Burgers, with have another unlikely collaboration, Archer and Sealab 2021.  While I have seen only little of Sealab 2021, I did get most of the references hidden within in these episodes.

In Sea Tunt, we finally get to meet Cheryl/Carol/Krystal’s gross and disgusting brother Cecil (who is not as gross and disgusting person as you might think).  Cecil is a philanthropist who has run himself into the ground with all the various philanthropies ($500 million spent). Cecil’s plan is to videotape the ISIS crew’s reactions to various questions about Cheryl so he can convince a judge that Cheryl is crazy, thus obtaining her half of the inheritance.  Finally someone tries to get Cheryl’s money besides Mallory!

This also is the return of Archer’s most famous alter-ego/cover I.D. Chet Manley. This time is an Emmy award winning repoter/ nationally ranked kite surfer. Oh the ridiculous things Adam Reed can come up with. Just perform a quick Internet search to be suffice.

The entire second episode belongs to Jon Hamm. He is absolutely the best person for the job as the insane Captain Murphy, captain of Cecil’s sea lab.  You can only figure what happens when Captain Murphy and Stirling Archer meet?

Have Archer fires the gun, the glass bursts and everybody almost dies. Except Captain Murphy, who hilariously dies by getting crushed by an off brand vending machine.  By the way, Lana Kane is expecting and it isn’t Cyril’s! I don’t think it is Archer’s, but at least we have a story to look forward to in Season 5!
