Hello everybody! For this week’s new movie show, we have Marvel’s newest entry in the MCU…Ant Man.
DIRECTED: Peyton Reed
STARRING: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Anthony Mackie, Wood Harris, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Michael Douglas
COUNTRY: United States
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but maintain his full sized strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
So how is Marvel’s latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Actually not half bad. I definitely was wary of Paul Rudd as a superhero, since I don’t particularly like him as an actor. To my surprise though his cocky/ definitely not heroic attitude and performance actually fit the character quite nicely. His comedic chops also add a nice layer of comedy that Ant Man desperately needed.
Alright, here comes my biggest pet peeve. As an amateur filmmaker, I understand that each and every filmmaker has his own individual style. Since the original main driving force behind Ant Man, Edgar Wright, jumped ship during production, much of his style is still there. The new and final director,Peyton Reed, did the best he could. Unfortunately, I don’t think there styles matched very well and would have liked to see Edgar Wright’s finished version of Ant Man. Otherwise, it was a rather decent film. I haven’t been proud to say that about a Marvel film in quite a while.
