Ever Enigmatic Cityzen Drops Bouncy “Unicorns On A Rocket Launcher”, With An Odd Lack of Unicorns

The more and more coverage we provide for this artist, the more we desperately want to snag a glimpse into the electric future of music. Beginning the journey we are stopping off at R3HAB’s CYB3RPVNK for a dark house track “Unicorns on a Rocket Launcher’ from the enigmatic Cityzen. A brand new project coming from the minds behind the CYB3RPVNK movement, Cityzen is a time-manipulating enigma that can exist in both the past and the future without any clear reason why. Cityzen is definitely a peculiar project, as his affinity for the color red when paired with his unique glasses create a rather odd image. However, Cityzen’s drive to blend futuristic beats and classic underground sounds will only further cloud his image and style.

The more we listen to Cityzen’s tracks, the more we are starting to believe that they have mastered time travel and just keeps bring music back from the future. First off, we are absolutely in love by the title, as “Unicorns On A Rocket Launcher” is weird enough to fit in with the Cityzen thematic approach. While it may be less futuristic in comparison to previous tracks “Sirius” and “Rave Tech Repeat”, this track has no problem fitting into the Cityzen wheelhouse. The track is bouncy with a bassline that doesn’t cede control and drives the track forward. Intriguing enough, “Unicorns On A Rocket Launcher” derives from a few doses of UK-garage and g-house with a minor vocal riff to package everything up. By far their most festival-ready track yet, we won’t be surprised if we hear “Unicorns On A Rocket Launcher” at our next big festival.

Journey With Us to the Year 2064 For a Seedy Nightclub Crawl With Cityzen in “Rave Tech Repeat”

While it has been a few months since we’ve heard from this CYB3RPVNK enigma, they’re back and as strong as ever. This time we stopped by CYB3RPVNK for the second single from the enigmatic Cityzen “Rave Tech Repeat”.

Future bass is such an interesting genre to watch develop, as no one actually knows which sounds and beat will fill our future. Drawing from genres at the darker end of the electric spectrum, like techno and tech-house, “Rave Tech Repeat” creates a vision of a Neo-City seedy underground club that is full to the brim with people packed as tight as sardines. With a kick-drum led bassline, sinister synth work, and plenty of melodic funk for days, we were definitely not disappointed for Cityzen’s second outing. Cityzen may very well have the ability to manipulate time, as the track sounds like it originated in the early 90s yet is a complete dancefloor killer in the year 2064.

The Imitation Game: Cumberbatch Not As Sherlock Holmes

Hello everybody! For today’s new movie show we watch dramatic exploits in The Imitation Game.

THE IMITATION GAME

MV5BNDkwNTEyMzkzNl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNTAwNzk3MjE@._V1_SY317_CR0,0,214,317_AL_

DIRECTED: Morten Tyldum

STARRING: Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, Charles Dance, Allen Leech, Matthew Beard, Rory Kinnear

GENRE: Historical Thriller

YEAR: 2014

COUNTRY: United Kingdom, United States, Australia

Based on the real life story of legendary cryptanalyst Alan Turing, the film portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team of code-breakers at Britain’s top-secret Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II.

The film is a watered down version of Turing’s short life, but nevertheless the screenplay – taut, engaging and dramatic – has a plethora of poignant moments along with life lessons that propel the tale forward. It offers ample insight into the character of the mysterious Alan Turing.

With excellent production values, the story arc is as familiar as they come for the biopic genre. The first half of the film sets in the intrigue quotient, while the second half lingers on for a bit longer with some technicalities involved since Alan is developing an “Electrical brain, a digital computer.” It’s the final act with its sad and unjust revelation that feels a bit rushed. The dialogues loaded with sarcasm and self-deprecation reflect the stiff upper lip British humour to the core and keep you hooked.

The film does, though, reduce Turing in his last days to a Gollum-like creature who regards the bombe-like contraption in his flat as a precious reminder of his childhood crush at Sherborne. In this way, this real-life genius, a eunuch even before his castration, remains an enigma, seen only through a lens of psychoanalytically trite pulp romanticism.

PROS:

  • Entire Cast performances.
  • Excellent biopic.
  • Plot.
  • Tension.

CONS:

  • Stretches the truth.
  • Storytelling.
  • Alan Turing’s demise.

SCORE: 8.2 / 10
